Authorities stated that an alleged Iranian drone attack targeted a Kuwaiti oil tanker—loaded to full capacity—at the port of Dubai, sparking a fire that was subsequently brought under control and extinguished.
Early Tuesday morning, the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) announced that the oil tanker Al-Salmi had been struck in an Iranian attack while docked at the port in the United Arab Emirates, causing damage to the vessel and igniting a fire on board.

The official Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported that the KPC warned of the possibility of an oil spill in the waters surrounding the area.
Dubai authorities confirmed that a drone attack had targeted the Kuwaiti tanker overnight, adding that response teams had successfully contained the incident. According to the Dubai Media Office, authorities further noted that no oil spills or casualties had been reported.
Meanwhile, Zein Basrawi—an Al Jazeera correspondent reporting from Dubai—stated that several loud explosions were heard across the city, beginning around 6:00 or 7:00 p.m. (local time) on Monday and continuing until approximately 1:00 or 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
“It seems these attacks are drawing closer and becoming increasingly loud,” said Basrawi. “One of them struck that oil tanker off the coast of Dubai.”
She added: “It certainly appears that people here are, once again, on high alert… as the sound of military aircraft can be heard flying over the area on patrol missions.”
The KPC stated that efforts are currently underway to assess the extent of the damage sustained by the tanker. According to data from Lloyd’s List Intelligence, this entity is the parent company of both the registered owner and the commercial operator of the vessel Al-Salmi.
According to data published by Lloyd’s and the firm TankerTrackers, the tanker was carrying a cargo of two million barrels of oil, having arrived from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Lloyd’s data also indicated that the vessel’s intended destination was the city of Qingdao, China. The attack on the tanker Al-Salmi constitutes the most recent incident in a series of aggressions directed against commercial vessels in the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz—attacks perpetrated using missiles or explosive drones (both aerial and maritime)—since the commencement, on February 28, of the war being waged by the United States and Israel against Iran.
Early Monday morning, maritime security experts reported that a container ship owned by a Greek company—and located off the coast of the Ras Tanura area in Saudi Arabia—had reported two separate incidents in which several projectiles struck the water very close to the vessel. Meanwhile, the operator of a Thai cargo ship—which had sustained a projectile strike near the Strait of Hormuz—stated that a search team had managed to board the vessel but failed to locate the three crew members who remained missing.
The vessel, the Mayuree Naree, had been rendered inoperable after being struck just north of Oman earlier this month.
Other Regional Attacks
Malik Traina, an Al Jazeera correspondent reporting from Kuwait City, stated that “numerous attacks” occurred across the Gulf region on Tuesday, involving Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Bahrain. He added: “In the United Arab Emirates, four people sustained minor injuries in the Al Badaa district of Dubai.” He continued by saying: “Likewise, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain each announced, independently, that they had been subjected to attacks during the night and had successfully intercepted missiles and drones.”
Later that same Tuesday, the Dubai Media Office reported that four “Asian nationals” were injured by falling debris—resulting from an interception operation—that struck several homes in southern Dubai. The UAE stated that its air force had intercepted eight ballistic missiles, four cruise missiles, and 36 drones launched from Iran that Tuesday.
Separately, Saudi Arabia announced that its air defenses had intercepted and destroyed 10 drones and eight ballistic missiles during a new wave of attacks.
In a statement published on the platform X (formerly Twitter)—and citing a ministerial spokesperson—the Saudi Ministry of Defense declared: “Ten drones have been intercepted and destroyed in the last few hours.” The Ministry added that seven ballistic missiles aimed at the Riyadh region were also intercepted and destroyed, as well as a missile targeting the Eastern Province. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that two people were injured in the Al-Kharj governorate, with limited material damage recorded in three homes and several vehicles in the area.
Explosions were also heard in Iraq, near Erbil International Airport—the capital of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region—according to a journalist from Agence France-Presse (AFP).
The Gulf, “United”
On Tuesday, Qatar declared that the Gulf nations remain united in their call for de-escalation of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Majed Al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated during a regular press briefing: “Our interpretation of the situation indicates a highly unified stance among the Gulf nations regarding the call for de-escalation and an end to the war.”
For his part, the Iranian Foreign Minister insisted on Tuesday that the attacks launched by Tehran against Arab Gulf states target only U.S. forces, despite the fact that said attacks have struck civilian targets throughout the region. “Iran respects Saudi Arabia and considers it a sister nation,” wrote Minister Abbas Araqchi in a post on the platform “X,” attaching a photograph that purportedly showed damage sustained by a U.S. aircraft at Prince Sultan Air Base in the Kingdom.
“Our operations target hostile aggressors who hold no respect whatsoever for either Arabs or Iranians, nor are they capable of providing any security… The time has come to expel U.S. forces.”
