The Scale and Nature of Housing Damage

Tehran’s mayor’s spokesman, Abdulmohar Mohammadkhani, provided detailed information on the extent of the destruction. He explained that the extent of damage to these 33,000 residential units varied considerably – from “minor repairs including glass, doors and windows” to severe damage requiring “extensive reconstruction or complete renovation.” This wide spectrum of damage underscores the major disruption to the daily lives of much of the city’s population.

Impact on Displaced Families

As a result of these attacks, a large number of families are facing housing instability. Mohammadkhani confirmed that, due to the damage caused, 1,869 families are currently facing serious housing difficulties. To address this crisis, municipal authorities have launched efforts to resettle the affected individuals; under this initiative, approximately 1,245 families have already been sheltered in 23 different residential complexes located in the city. These efforts aim to provide immediate shelter and assistance to those most affected by this crisis.

Ongoing Repair and Reconstruction Efforts

Despite the extensive damage, repair and reconstruction efforts are ongoing. Mohammadkhani said that work has begun on more than 4,000 residential units. These repair works are being carried out directly by municipal authorities or through financial assistance provided by the city administration to assist affected homeowners. This ongoing work demonstrates the Tehran government’s commitment to restoring damaged homes and alleviating the hardships faced by its citizens.
