Unauthorized Telecast and Arrest

The unauthorized airing of Jana Nayagan has led to the swift arrest of the cable network owner and a police investigation into how the unreleased film was obtained.

Rasi Cable Network’s Actions

Earlier this week, Rasi cable network, operating in the Sulur town of Coimbatore, aired the full Tamil movie. Jana Nayagan holds significant importance as it is billed as Vijay’s final film before his complete transition into the political arena. The film has yet to receive certification from the Central Board of Film Certification, making its broadcast a serious violation.

Local police have acted decisively, arresting the owner of Rasi cable network. The Coimbatore SP provided details on the ongoing investigation, stating, “We have seized electronic gadgets. We have also seized the shop. The owner is under arrest. He had the movie on a hard disk. We are investigating how he got the full version of the movie.”

The Leak Controversy

The broadcast by Rasi cable network follows a week of intense controversy surrounding the film, which saw clips and even the entire movie being circulated online.

Debunked Rumours and Initial Leak

Just yesterday, the Southern India Film Editors Association had dismissed earlier rumours about the leak of Jana Nayagan, branding them as “baseless” and misleading. However, the controversy truly erupted on April 9, when clips and, in some instances, the entire movie were widely circulated on social media platforms.

Industry-Wide Condemnation

The egregious leak was met with widespread condemnation from prominent figures across the South Indian film industry. A galaxy of stars, including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi, Sivakarthikeyan, and Vijay Deverakonda, along with the film’s leading lady Pooja Hegde, voiced their strong disapproval of the piracy.
