US Priorities and Warnings

Tensions Mount Amidst Negotiations
The atmosphere around the talks is charged, with contentious issues and firm warnings dominating the discourse.
Frozen Assets Dispute

Trump’s Fresh Warnings and Threats
President Trump issued a fresh and stern warning on Friday, stating that the United States would resume and escalate military operations against Iran if no agreement is secured. In an interview with the New York Post, he further threatened “complete decimation” if no deal is reached within 24 hours, expressing deep distrust in Iranian honesty. He also highlighted that American warships are being heavily armed with advanced weapons as a contingency.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump claimed that the only reason Iranians are still alive is to negotiate a deal. He accused Iran of having no real leverage beyond temporarily disrupting international waterways, dismissing it as “short-term extortion,” and warned they must come to the table or face severe consequences.
Pakistan’s Mediation and Concerns
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called the coming days a “make-or-break” juncture for peace efforts. In a televised address on Friday, he urged all to pray for the success of the talks to save “countless lives” and assured that Pakistan’s leaders would do everything possible to facilitate a successful outcome, stating, “It is all in God’s hands.” Despite these hopes, Pakistan has warned of wide gaps between the two sides’ positions, underscoring the challenges ahead amid tight security in Islamabad.
Parallel Diplomatic Tracks
Beyond the immediate US-Iran discussions, other diplomatic efforts are also underway to address regional conflicts.
Lebanon-Israel Ceasefire Talks Scheduled
According to the office of Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, reported by BBC, Lebanese and Israeli diplomats have agreed to sit down for talks in Washington next Tuesday. These discussions will focus on a possible ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hezbollah fighting. The statement indicated that the talks would “seek an announcement on a ceasefire and a date to begin direct negotiations,” with direct talks potentially contingent on a ceasefire being established first.
